Psychopomp – Children of Men producer like this mad killer Leave a comment »Psychopomp is a script by Blake Leibel. It is also the name of the title character. Heat Vision describe the character as:

A foul-mouthed anti-hero who roams international hot spots with state-of-the art weapons and technology with the aim of destroying those who violate his code. The script has been described as having tones similar to “A Clockwork Orange” and “The Dark Knight.”

Hilary Shor, one of the producers behind “Children of Men,” has optioned the script.

Unsurprisingly, it will also be developed as a graphic novel.

“This is the evil twin of the ‘Children of Men” future world Alfonso created,” said Shor. “A lot of material I’m best known for developing is ‘weighty,’ for lack of a better word, but this really appealed to me. It’s the graphic novel world and something I’ve been interested in exploring.”

I do like comics, but the whole name and synopsis remind me of a bad Image comic from the Nineties. You know what I mean, big guns, silly costume with lots of pouches, insane action and wafer thin plot.

It is too early to judge though. That is just my initial reaction to the limited info. It could well end up being brilliant.

A quick search on the word Psychopomp gives this info:

Psychopomps (from the Greek word ψυχοπομπός (psychopompos), literally meaning the “guide of souls”) are creatures, spirits, angels, or deities in many religions whose responsibility is to escort newly deceased souls to the afterlife. Their role is not to judge the deceased, but simply provide safe passage.

In Jungian psychology, the psychopomp is a mediator between the unconscious and conscious realms. It is symbolically personified in dreams as a wise man or woman, or sometimes as a helpful animal. In many cultures, the shaman also fulfills the role of the psychopomp.

Machete Graphic Novel out on September and Dec 2010

Robert Rodriguez Unveils MACHETE Comic Book Cover
Big Daddy Wolf | Jul 23 2010, 11:07 AM
In addition to his epic MACHETE Comic-Con street party, where fans were treated to footage and complimentary tacos from the Machete-themed taco truck, Rodriguez also unveiled the cover to the new MACHETE comic book.

As an acknowledgment of the fans who couldn't get into the actual party, Rodriguez unveiled seven minutes of Machete that he projected onto a huge building so that those stuck outside the perimeter could enjoy the onscreen carnage.

Breaking news! Director Robert Rodriguez in conjunction with publisher IDW has teamed up with über comic artist Juan Doe to execute the covers for the new Machete comic based on the "Mexploitation" film of the same name.

The first Machete comic, issue #0, will be released in September, with issues 1-5 breaking in December.

Robert Rodriguez and his long time producer Aaron Kaufman wrote the story with Stuart Sager handling the artwork and Zach Howard doing coloring.

UNDERWATER AND ICE WINTER SCRIPT EPIC HIGH CONCEPT

Jiang unveils $130 million 3D 'Deep'
China's most expensive pic moves toward post
BEIJING -- Producer Jon Jiang introduced his 3D underwater actioner "Empires of the Deep" to the Chinese media Tuesday and said the U.S.-China co-production will be China's most expensive movie ever with a budget of $130 million.
Real estate mogul Jiang is one of China's richest men and "Empires" marks his bow as a producer. He also wrote the script and has been involved in every step of the production, which he sees as the first genuine contender for an international-scale movie made in China.

"This is a Hollywood-style movie. The budget for this film is definitely $100 million but it's for sure that we will invest more. The final figure will be around $130 million, part of it from my own funds and part of it E-Magine Studio," Jiang said a news conference at the Huairou production base near Beijing.

The movie has been lensing around China for six months, and is helmed by Canadian Michael French. The pic has had a number of helmers involved, including Jonathan Lawrence and "Vidocq" director Pitof, and has one month left to go, before starting a year of post-production for a 2011 release, either in the summer or at Christmas.

"Avatar has opened a new era for film market. So I think we must keep up with this new trend. This film is a Hollywood film. There will be no pre-sales in other countries. We will share income of the film accordingly with local distributors in countries around the world," Jiang said.

The movie is seen as the first in a series and Jiang said the second instalment has been scripted and the third is in treatment.

Anthony Arendt, part of the team behind the 3D work on "Avatar," is consulting with the producers on stereography.

One of the film's stars, former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko, attended the event dressed as a mermaid (she plays a mermaid queen in the movie). Pic also features Steve Polites from "The Murder Game."

Pic is using more than 10 stages at the Huairou studios, as well as shooting in Fujian province and Greece.

DIRECT THE SCRIPT INTO FOUR PARTS LIKE THIS ONE, TO MAKE IT AFFORDABLE, IN ONE YEAR SHOULD FINISH SHOOTING AND ALL GET PAID

Die Bad (Hangul: 죽거나 혹은 나쁘거나; rr: Jukgeona hokeun nabbeugeona) is a 2000 South Korean movie. It was the debut film of director Ryu Seung-wan and starred the director and his brother Ryu Seung-beom along with Park Seong-bin and Bae Jung-shik. The film consists of four distinct parts that were originally created as short films. The parts are connected through the main story of the protagonist Sung-bin's descent into a life of crime. An American remake is planned, with Marc Forster directing.

New Order True Faith (apply to the ending of script)

New Order -- True Faith...
"True Faith"

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
I don't care 'cause I'm not there
And I don't care if I'm here tomorrow
Again and again I've taken too much
Of the things that cost you too much
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

When I was a very small boy,
Very small boys talked to me
Now that we've grown up together
They're afraid of what they see
That's the price that we all pay
Our valued destiny comes to nothing
I can't tell you where we're going
I guess there was just no way of knowing
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

I feel so extraordinary
Something's got a hold on me
I get this feeling I'm in motion
A sudden sense of liberty
The chances are we've gone too far
You took my time and you took my money
Now I fear you've left me standing
In a world that's so demanding
I used to think that the day would never come
I'd see delight in the shade of the morning sun
My morning sun is the drug that brings me near
To the childhood I lost, replaced by fear
I used to think that the day would never come
That my life would depend on the morning sun...

Market INDY directors and take you film script to SUNDANCE like THE KILLER INSIDE ME sold of 1.5 million

http://media.monstersandcritics.com/movies/thekillerinsideme_1/images/group1/0017.jpg

U.S. rights to Michael Winterbottom’s "The Killer Inside Me" sold to IFC Films for around $1.5 million.

Casey Affleck stars as a murderous small-town Texas sheriff, along with Jessica Alba, Kate Hudson, Simon Baker, Bill Pullman, Ned Beatty and Elias Koteas.

Based on Jim Thompson’s pulp novel and scripted by John Curran, film sparked some controversy at Sundance due to its explicit violent, sexual content.

But IFC has a proven appetite for controversial fare, such as its 2009 Cannes pickup of Lars Von Trier’s "Antichrist."

Producers are Winterbottom’s longtime collaborator Andrew Eaton and Muse’s Chris Hanley and Brad Schlei.

Dealmakers included IFC’s acquisitions head Arianna Bocco, WME Global topper Graham Taylor and Wild Bunch’s Carole Baraton.

IFC Films is set to release the film in late summer through its theatrical and VOD platforms.
